I would tend to disagree with the people above.

Look for the audio technica ath-a900x

Then see what you can do about getting your hands on the schiit magni and modi.

First, yes. Those prices are too damn high.

Second: why do you disagree with the above? What reasons?

Third: What do the Magni and the Modi do? What reason should I get a DAC for? If I were to pick up the Sound Blaster Zx would it already do that, or would I still need to? Doesn't the Zx come with a built in AMP?

All in all, I'd like to thank everybody who's posted so far. Still not sure as far as for a mic. I really do like an attatched mic, or at least a clip-on. Unfortunately my back is to the door where a lot of sound comes in (noisy family), so if there's a desktop directional mic focusing behind me will it pick up much of that?

Thanks for all the advice so far.

Its pretty hard to recommend headphones when you live in Canada and I live in Finland. Even the biggest music shop in europe doesnt have any audio technica products, and so on.
At least O2 headphone amp is easily available here...

AFAIK, magni/modi is dac/amp combo. Dac/amp usually beat soundcards in sound quality but they dont have as good positional audio as soundcards (depends on games).
BTW, those are also products that wont be found in europe...

Personally I would recommend dac/amp if you are a music lover, otherwise go with a normal soundcard.
And try not to go overboard with your audio setup. I bought new 400€ 2.0 speakers (Behringer B3031A+stands) when I already had good 130€ 2.0 speakers (Behringer MS40), just because I knew they would sound a little better... I feel like I went a little overboard with my audio setup.
