BSOD in Far Cry 3

Thread Starter
Ive finally gotten round to playing Far Cry 3, but ive already stopped.
On the first mission where you have to go up the radio tower, i got to the bottom and was about to shoot the snake, then I BSODd.

Heres the Bluescreenviewer report:

Ive looked into the atikmdag bluescreen issues, but I couldnt pinpoint a fix.
Some people said it was driver issues, but im on 13.4, so I thought they would all be fixed by now...

Ive got a VTX3D 7870 LE (XT), but I didnt see what the temps were before the crash.

Can anyone offer any help?
Thanks

That looks to be video drivers. Run driver sweeper and do a complete remove. http://www.guru3d.com/content_page/guru3d_driver_sweeper.html

Reinstall latest version of AMD drivers. Currently 13.5. 13.6 is available in Beta. I normally dont use Beta but sometimes they have specific performance and stability fixes but in this case I dont think it has anything of use. it seems to be aimed at fixing crossfire frame rates.

Yours is not a unique issue. I've seen it come up plenty of times in other forums. Video drivers are a difficult thing to get 100% right. Lots of different combinations of hardware (almost infinite).

I was having exactly the same issue with FC3 and figured out my 980X was no longer stable at 4.8ghz at an acceptable Vcore plus I had three 680s at the time. I ended up dialing back my OC to 4.4 and it never occurred after that.

Is driver sweeper safe? Ive heard it said quite a few times that it can remove chipset drivers and other important things...

Ive been playing today for over two hours and it seems to be working okay now, but I may still go through with that.
Thanks for the advice smile.gif

I think my overclock is still stable, but my temps are quite high after playing it. Im getting 47C on the cores and 54C CPU socket, so im at the back end of safe temps...
But it is a very hot day today, so that could be why.

Yep Driver Sweeper is safe. Just tick the option that says AMD video (or something like that. Anything it uninstalls will be reinstalled once you reinstall the new version of AMD drivers.

Check your GPU temps. If temps are an isue then thats more likely the cause. Use GPUz. It can record your temps while you are playing.
