BF3 dynamically reserves Vram. If you have more available it will reserve it in case it needs it.

i hope so. i used AB to monitor. kinda concerned about BF4.

@op, BF3 is one of the games where the 8300 shines but you do need to oc it.

I'm OK with over clocking but yeah, would rather grab an Intel processor. Was kinda hoping there was a tweak I could do but ergh. Not good at all.

EDIT: It seems adding 0.2ghz is increasing usage by around 10%.
EDIT2: I can reach 4.5ghz at 1.5v but that's max voltage for this cpu, I dont think temps are an issue... at all. What's everyone else think of this? It's increased my fps by around 20 - 25!!

Why not turn all the graphical settings up? You should be able to keep roughly the same frame rate (i.e. the graphical settings are much more dependent on the video card than the CPU) and the game will look much better. Unless you're running on a 120hz monitor, as long as you're getting around 60fps you should be fine. A 770 should be able to max out most settings in BF3. My buddy runs the game maxed out on a Phenom II x4 so your processor shouldn't bottleneck the game that much (assuming you aren't going for 120fps or something). So basically, framerate = more dependent on CPU and eye candy = more dependent on video card.
