best 128gb ssd for the buck??

Thread Starter
Hey guys so I was talking to my dad at breakfast this morning about sdd and for how good my computer is I still don't have one. Then I saw there was a Samsung 840 on amazon for 98 dollars with prime and he told me to order it. Very generous of him but looking around it seems like the 840 is nor anywherenear as good as the 840 pro but im not gonna try to ask for 40 more dollars so long story short what are the best ssds closer to the 840 price or is the 840 still good?

Edit: sorry for grammer I'm on my phone

For the same extra $40, I'd actually recommend the Samsung 840 250GB rather than the Samsung 840 Pro 128GB. Real world use, you won't really notice much of a difference but the extra capacity sure is useful.

Yup. I swapped out the 250 GB drive in my laptop to replace the 120 GB drive I ordered for my gaming rig. I have 24.206 GiB available on my laptop, with Windows, a few games, and things like MS Office and GIMP. Doubled capacity over slightly better write speeds is the way to go.

Yeah I'll have to consider the 256 but its actually 74 dollars right now... what about the crucial m4? And how is the sandisk ultra compared to the m4 or anything else

Crucial M4 is a bit older. I'd go with an M500. The price is about the same and you'd get a generation better design. Right now, only the 128 GB M4 is cheaper than its M500 equivalent. The specs on the Ultra Plus are good, and $165 is cheap for a 250 GB SSD. It was actually on sale, I believe, a few weeks ago for $150, which is ridiculously low.

Why not save a bit and go with Samsung and never look back? why get one cheap now and later you will replace it for something bigger or faster, invest once, i prefer to pay $200 now once over paying say $80 now then later again $150, i don't see any saving in buying twice, money will come sooner or later if you can wait or save for something better, i have only 1 Samsung 840 120GB the lowest and i don't know where to use it as a second drive.

If youre looking for reliability and performance, take the Samsung 840 PRO, if its only the price youre worried about, take the 128 Basic. Both are decent drives.
