[Engadget] Microsoft ties Bing Ads into Windows 8.1 Smart Search - Page 5

wait......the internet has ads??? tongue.gif

on topic: This is not MS putting an AD between your tiles. Or an AD on the desktop that floats around at all hours. This is part of integrated search that incorporates local files, apps, etc AND web searches...I don't see why this would get so much heat. Now if they cross that threshold of putting an AD in between my tiles or floating around on my desktop then we got problems till then...moving along

Don't worry guys, ads are coming on a desktop near you ... soon. This is only a few updates away. With things going the way they are Windows 9 or 10 might be always online for the regular version for "proper" users and partially offline for the poor-folk-with-shoddy-internet demographic.

Aslong as they dont do those auto playing videos with the volume on max, I wouldnt be that fussed.

As far as im aware, bing is an intergrated (sadley) part of Win8, if I get ads on bing searches in chrome, why wouldnt I then get them in a bing app, and the amount of times I will find myself actually using th bing app to search or the charms search to a link will be very little anyway, infact I hvant used it since release

This isnt anything that will make a difference to my own use, I doubt realistically it will to anybody elses, however the MS PR team is having a nightmare of a time at the moment so it was most probabaly the wrong time for this to come out

This doesn't bother me as much as the ads that they already have in the metro applications that come with Windows 8 (after an update; they were originally ad-free). Now I can't read the news without getting told that I have a terrible cold and need a cup of lukewarm sugary lemon water to make it go away.
