Questions about USB 3.0

Hey all quick question I currently have a Z77 Sabertooth mobo and before that i had an Z77 Intel mobo. My question is or rather my problem is that I'm having trouble getting the "on board" 20 pin usb 3.0 to work with my corsair case the 650D. I have my case's front panel usb 3.0 connected to a 20 pin adapter connected to my mobo and nothing I try will get it to work. Sometimes it will detect for a second and say it needs to be formatted. Are the devices not getting enough power since it's running so far? Is there anyway to get this to work without running a cable to the back of my case? Thanks for any suggestions.

Edit: I have also tried 2 different usb 3.0 20 pin adapters so I think we can rule that out

did you install the asmedia usb3 controller drivers for the sabertooth? you may be connecting to that onboard and not the chipset's.

edit: nevermind the onboard is the chipset's.
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z77/#specifications
Intel® Z77 chipset : *6
4 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue, 2 at mid-board)
ASMedia® ASM1042 controller : *6
2 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue)

but you still may need to update them . . and make sure they are enabled in the BIOS, which by default ought to be.

Thanks for the reply yeah they are enabled. Also they some times will detect devices but will instantly drop the connection. Has anyone one else not had this problem? Is the only way to use these to plug a usb 3.0 header into them, and if so why would they make adapters for 20 pin usb 3? Thanks again.
