Going from 7850 to 7970 - Driver re-install required?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, right now I'm running a XFX 7850 1GB and I should be receiving a XFX 7970 Core Edition shortly, I'm unsure if I'm supposed to just remove the 7850 from my system and pop in the 7970 or if I'm supposed to re-install/install new drivers.

Any help would be appreciate smile.gif

Drivers are unified so they your card will be already supported. What I would do is to simply uninstall the 7870 device from device manager simply because I am ocd and I hate having extra folders in the registry. The act of uninstalling the device from device manager cleans the corresponding folder for that gpu. Then shutdown and install your new card, and the drivers will set up your new card and all should be good to go after a reboot.

YES you DO need to reinstall drivers (best to remove first). If you simply insert the card, while the CCC will work, you may find your profiles not applying. Besides it takes what, 60 seconds to uninstall the driver anyway....

You do have to. When I upgraded from a 7850, CCC kept treating my card as a 7850, and thus applied my old 7850's clocks, voltage w/e. It would not work at all in gaming until I reinstalled.
