[Guru3D] Intel Skylake 14nm CPUs have PCI - Express 4.0 , DDR4 and SATA Express

Skylake would be built around a totally new 14 nm process design as an update over the Tri – gate architecture. Instead of featuring the Gen 8 GPU, Skylake would feature the latest Gen 9 integrated HD graphics along with the being the first main – stream platform to get Dual channel DDR 4 memory functionality. That being said, Haswell – E ( successor to the IVY BRIDGE – E ) and Skylake would be the only two desktop platforms with native support for DDR 4 memory from Intel and would ditch the much older DDR 3 memory support. Intel were not keen on reporting whether or not DDR 3 memory RAM would be compatible with these line – ups of processors so it seems only time holds the answer to one of the main core questions. Besides having compatibility with DDR 4 memory, Skylake would also feature PCIe 4.0 functionality which theoretically doubles the bandwidth over PCIe 3.0.

Interesting, especially part about SATA. Might actually wait with upgrade till 2015 instead 2014 for Haswell.-E.
It seems broadwell will carry over same features haswell will bring, skylake looks to be a serious upgrade. Guess waiting til 2016 to upgrade. This rig should last me a long time with a GPU upgrade along the way.

Mainstream hexacore please.

Finally, a reason to upgrade from Sandy Bridge.

Maybe it's just me but looking at the progression of Westmere - 87, Sandy - 185, Ivy - 225, and then Haswell 500Gflops (for a 100% performance leap) in the Xeon line, makes you think Intel is completely Sandbagging the desktop line to crap performance.

Yes I know this slide gives nothing tangible to go on, but it's rare to see 100% increase anywhere from one gen to the next and that is a direct Performance metric.

Are we talking about products to be released further than 2015?

It still has to rain quite the amount for that to come by, tongue.gif

Waiting for this for so long. Dunno for how long Intel will keep the same prices. Today an i3 just doesn't have enough cores to do the work, and i5's are still priced the same generation after generation. No moving forward except small bumps in per-core performance.
