Again, depends on what apps you use. If your programs make full use of HT and 8 cores, i7 is 1.6-1.8 times faster. Else, it's just the same.
And the correct term is 'faster', because 'powerful' may refer to the power draw of the CPU in Watt smile.gif

Edit: Ah, *without* HT it's more or less the same. smile.gif

The effect of HT is context dependent. Also keep in mind that OS scheduler will first assign application threads physical cores first, so HT shouldn't have any negative impact. There were such cases in the past, but with a few OS updates it is not the case anymore.

HT is based on idea, that most of the time CPU core is not being fully utilized as there are CPU cycles when CPU is waiting for resources to load to memory etc and in such cases the same core can be doing other work for which all needed resources are present and ready to be used. This is a very crude description. The benefits of HT solely depend on the amount of that idle cycles core has, the less there are the lower performance gains will be.

+1, I believe this comes closest to the truth biggrin.gif Although AFAIK games still see negative performance impact in some cases. But it's minimal, so.. smile.gif

Thread Starter
Alright, cause i rarerly render anything so im just for gaming, but most of the games i play uses only 2-4cores like diablo 3, total war and those. And with HT enabled i experience stutter and freeze in those games.
