What happened to 120hz? - Page 5

I see the fake effect with interpolation, but for me, it feels different when doing a true 120fps@120Hz effect (real frames). More immersive.

As soon as there is a 120Hz/144Hz IPS panel display I am all over it. Until that time I much prefer the image quality of the S-IPS panels to the TN panels and some extra smoothness is not enough to get me to give it up. Not to mention I haven't seen any 2560x1440 120Hz monitors either. I need all those things before I'll switch. I do hope a product like that does get released.

You can buy Korean IPS monitors that are guaranteed 120Hz for a price premium.

Meanwhile...

A controlled blind test was executed by Hardware.info with everyday gamers playing on unlabelled 60 Hz monitors versus 120 Hz monitors.

The test found that a remarkable 86% of gamers preferred 120 Hz. Even more tellingly, 88% of gamers were able to identify which screens were 120Hz.

I was very interested in those when they first came out. What turned me away:

1: No warranty in Canada

2: No dead pixel guranatee (and apparently fairly common to get at least a few)

3: Backlight bleed fairly common

4: Huge shipping and duty costs to ship into Canada

5: Horrible stands and require ghetto modding in some cases

Hopefully one of the big monitor manufacturers will get around to releasing an actual IPS 120hz monitor with all of the attendant quality control and support.

I live in B.C., only had to pay 28$ of Duty on 1 of 3 Korean IPS/PLS panels I have purchased.

True, there are also a few 1440p displays that overclock to 75hz like the Dell U2713HM. Might be a good compromise for some people.

And how much did you pay for shipping on top of that?

And what would it cost to ship it back if it was DOA or defective?
