Done some research and most of the recommended low budget DACs are actually more expensive than the Titanium HD or the STX, apart from fiio E10 . I'm not sure if it can outperform the sb z for example though.

I bet the Audioengine D1 DAC is comparable to some $150 USD sound cards.

The nice thing with a external DAC is, there are now shifty drivers to deal with. In my case it was a necessity to finally get a clean noise floor. (Optical isolation).

There are other things that I could do to help rid of the ground loops, but all of them compromise safety in one way or another. So the external DAC was just the ticket.

I want to like internal sound cards or onboard audio, but it did not work out in my situation.
