acceptable flow rate

I just finished my first water loop for two graphics cards. My flow meter shows 1.5 LPM on max pump settings. What is an acceptable flow rate for a good water loop? I'm. Using the 1/2 tubing if that makes a difference.

I read that the minimum LPM for a efficient loop is something like 0.9, so I think your more than Ok smile.gif

1.5 litres per minute?

That sounds a little low. Generally people aim for around 1 gallon per minute (US gallon) which is ~3.8LPM. Having said that you can go as low as ~0.6 GPM (~2.25 LPM) before most modern blocks really start to lose performance. Added to that GPU blocks are usually not that sensitive to flow rates, so even at lower flows you will still get reasonable performance.

What pump are you using? How is your loop setup? What are the temperatures on your GPUs?

The last point is the main one really, if the temperatures are fine then there is no real problem.

Are you sure it is 1.5 LPM? its not in the wrong units or something simple like that?

If it is correct that is a pretty low flow rate. It isn't the end of the world and the system will still work, it just can mean some less than desirable side effects.
Low flow means each water block performs at less than its best and the core temp of the device will be higher. The water will heat much more between each water block so temps can be further raised if there are not rads between each block.

I find 3 Litres per minute quite good for stopping heating between components and just good performance. Around 3.7 LPM is the recommended rate for best all round system cooling by the people who do detailed testing.

You need more flow, when you can't push water through your loop fast enough you get Laminar flow. Which is when your water Is flowing faster in the center than at the walls. You lose performance in pulling heat from the blocks and dispersing the heat at the radiator. You want turbulence in your flow.

So far so good ran a few benches and tests for about an hour. Ran at 50C. Maintained 1300 MHz according to uniengine valley. Don't know if that is accurate though since the boost clock was set to stock settings in evga precision x to under 1000 MHz. Can the boost clock go higher than what it is set for?
