Asus Geforce GTX 660 Ti-DC2-2GD5 - Horizontal lines and black screens

edit1: I am now running gpu tweak and are monitoring to perhaps gather further information.

edit2: I stressed my card in a vary of ways, and as i suspected i get the lines and blackouts whenever nvidia powermizer ups the gpu, memory and processor clock. This makes me want to disable the feature. What i want to know is what that does to the management of my gpu fan speeds? is the the tool setting the clocks to a set amount or do i have to do that myself in the asus gpu tweak? I love the idea of the powermizer, but if i have to disable it i will. i would prefer if someone with knowledge could take me through what i have to think of, and what to do and be vary off before i try and disable it. For example, what 3rd party program should i use? Thanks you for your time.

edit3: added screen to my specs

edit4: I have set the power managedment mode in the nvidia control panel to "prefer maximum performance" and the problem precists. It is when my GPU, memry and precessor clocks goes down from exiting an application i get the blackouts and lines.

Hello

I recently upgrades my system with a GTX 660 Ti and have been having issues with it.

I get horizontal lines that seem to travel upwards, not as any artifacts i ever seen before.
I also get black screens for about 1 second. If not randomly, whenever i use programs or my computer does some work in general. Some games that i have tried gets these problems and some don't, the problems seem to be worse out in windows. The worst i have seen it is when watching flash videos (only been able to moniter this over the course of 2 days) The lines and "blackouts" seem to be corrilated, a black screen usually get followed up by the lines and the other way around.

I believe that this could be the nvidia powermizer acting up, or a faulty card so far. I am only able to go to the store and replace my card tomorrow, 2 days after i got it installed, and have hence not been able to test everything possible to fix this.

I am installing the gpu tweak right now to see if i can do anything. After that i am going to try the powermizer manager and disable the feature and see if that works.

There is nothing wrong with my monitor and avi cable, they have both run well with another gfx card/gpu. I am certain that the card sits well in the pci slot and the power cables to the card as well. And i have a 620W powersupply wich is enough.

I have reinstalled it properly with an extra driver sweep twice.

My system:

os: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit service pack 1 with recent updates
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-DS3 S-Series dynamic energy saver advanced/ultra durable 2
cpu: intel core 2 duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00Ghz 2.67Ghz
Memory: 4.00 GB
Psu: Corsair HX 620W Modular power supply
Screen: HP LP2465 (dvi) @ 60hz

Also a bit off point, i was not able to do the online registration of my gfx card, the serial number and part number are apparently incorrect, what gives?

Any help possible is much appreciated, thank you for your time and effort in helping me resolve this very anooying issue.

If you have any further questions please post them down below

What actual PSU are you suing?

And try turning your Memory/Core clock 10MHz down each, if it fixes the problem, the card cant handle stock and should be RMA'ed

Thank you for your reply, I added the psu name to the original thread, its name is as follows. Corsair HX620W Modular Power Supply.

I just set an offset of -10 mhz to my memory clock, to me it seems that asus gpu tweak only let me set the GPU boost clock, i did not touch that one. And ran some youtube vids and i still got the veritcal lines when the memory and gpu clocks went up due to the powermizer feature.

That is interesting. I dont have another screen to test on, dvi or hdmi i am affraid, i will add my screen name to the original thread, but i feel like this should not be the problem. i tried using the other dvi output and the problem was still there. i have read that other people have tried with other cables, hdmi and dvi without success, hm.

looks like the problem for me is the dvi vga adapter , I received a screen from a friend with dvi/hdmi and the lines were gone but with dvi adapter the problem comes back..
if i use a hdmi to vga adapter will fix this? thinking.gif

basedust are you using dvi-i connector?

I dont use any adapter. Just a plain dvi cable, i can use another gfc card with the same cable and screen with no issues.

I am not sure what the difference between the dvi and dvi-i. Bit i belive its just a pin thats different, and this should not be the problem, i think.

I did an RMA and is waiting on them to see if the card is faulty, should know by tomorow. I hope its faulty so that i know where the problem lies.

So you use a dvi TO vga adapter? the adapter you have might just be broken, or the cable. have you tried with a different cable and adapter?
