looking to lower my temps

Thread Starter
I'm running the system in my sig at 1.55v in the bios 1.49v as read is speedfan at around 47-48*C under full load in orthos using a tuniq tower right now. I wouldn't mind getting the temps a little lower here in hopes of being able to use a little more voltage.

I'm curious to see what setups you guys might recomend that would help me out here as well as what voltage, temps, speeds you guys are running with the setup.

anyhelp here would be welcome. thank you

Greetings,

For active-air cooling consider these factors:
  • Thermal condictivity effeciency of the HS material
  • Total surface area of the HS
  • Pressure of the HS against the IHS
  • Airflow accross the HS surface area
  • Airflow of the intake
  • airflow of the exhaust.

Also, 120mm fans have a better cfm/dba rating than 80's.

Also lapping the HS, and if you are willing to VOID YOUR WARRANTY, lapping the IHS, or completely removing the IHS.

No offense if any or all of this is old-hat to you.

Oops.. forgot my setup: 120mm x 5 (2 intake (1 in PSU chamber), 1 rear, 1 pusher on the HS, 1 blowhole)

was trying to go more into the route of watercooling at this point. so far I'm happy with the setup I have though I might try to upgrade the fan a little bit but what type of water cooling setup would work to lower my temps and by how much would that setup do so as a rough guess.

still curious as to what others have as far as setups as well though as it might give me some ideas of what to run and how they are doing

Sorry, I am a WC pre-Newb. I am building mine this spring. This is what I am considering:

Pump: Swiftech MCP655
CPU Block: Swiftech Apogee
GPU: DD 8800 block
Rad: 2 x 120mm (maybe dual)
Resevoir: Make my own

All 1/2" ID

How about you? What have you found so far?

I'm new. first time I really started to debate it now that I think that I have maxed the system I have as much as I feel safe doing so. so I really don't have much in mind yet.

go with one good 2x120mm rad if you are looking to get dual rads. Something like a Black Ice GTX240 will be more than enough for a cpu and a gpu.

If you are going to cool only the CPU:
Pump: DD-D5 or Swiftech 655 (both are the same pump) or maybe even a MAG-II
Radiator: Single 120mm (I would go for a GTS one)
Block: Swifteck Apogee
Reservoir: MCRES-MICRO (try to avoid bay style reservoirs)
Tubing: 1/2" or 7/16"; you can even go 3/8" since only the CPU will be cooled (a well made 3/8" loop can be as efficient as an average 1/2" one).

how much of a difference could I expect with that setup vs what I'm doing now?

don't ya think his tuniq tower has about the same surface area and prefromance as a single 120mm rad?

If your sig fans are your only case fans? You could improve the air flow. And properly layed out high quality air cooling can get you as cool as a higher dollar custom water setup. If extreme OC's aren't your priority.

How comfortable are you case mods/blow holes?
Is noise an issue?
If not go for 38x120mm Panaflo/Delta.
What kinda OC are you after?
If extreme, go custom water system.
