I'm doing okay at 4.4 for now, what do you think would enable me to get to 4.6, just a better cooler?. I've read about people getting to 4.7 on air, I know the H50 isnt a true watercooler but it thought it would do better. I have also read about how its luck of the draw when it comes to the chips. Too be honest with the low air flow from my h50 and having to use a spare fan as my second intake since I broke my nice one, my case must be hotter than usual. I will give it another go when my new fans get here.

You'd need a chip capable of higher clocks at lower voltages or a delid. Fact is, even with better cooling, anything above 1.3v is going to be an oven with Ivy Bridge unless delidded.

I am cool with sticking with the 1.3v threshold, I have looked into the deliding. I will not be doing that. My question is still if the temps line up with what I am at now. 4.4 at 1.235v, pll 1.75 that gets up to high 80's during prime 95 blend test after about 25-30min. Also should I have disabled hyperthreading or intel turbo boost? Thanks

Keep Turbo Boost and Hyperthreading enabled. You can disable Hyperthreading if you want, but it's part of what you paid extra for over a Core i5 tongue.gif As for Turbo boost, it's needed for overclocking. It is what allows your CPU to overclock in the case of Sandy and Ivy Bridge.

Thanks for info on turbo and hyper threading. Regarding the question about the temps.......
Additional question, do you think a poor application of thermal paste could be causing some of my temp’s issues? Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it.

Like I said, you don't really have temp issues at all. It's normal to hit the 80s at 1.23 unless delidded. Like I said, there's not much else you can do. The problem you're having is the chip not being able to dissipate the heat to your heatsink fast enough. A repaste is certainly worth a shot, though, if you think you messed up.

I have looked into delidding, its tempting but I am not going to try it just yet. I did however reseat it with some OLD artic 5 I had and im already seeing better temps. I went ahead and ordered some artic mx 4, since im out of thermal paste anyways. I am going to redo it again with that and install the new fans to see were that puts me at. The delidding doesnt look to hard, but taking a hammer or razor to my cpu just isnt for me quite yet. I may give it a shot with the I7 2600k I now have laying around and see what I can get out of that. Its seems ****ty that intel goes so cheap on the internal thermal paste, but I am sure I am not the first person to complain about that. My whole goal with all this was to get to a higher fps on games such as bf3, even with the oc and upgrading from the 2600k to 3770k I havent seen much of an increase to FPS :...(. I would like to hit 120 fps constant at the highest settings on 64 player matchs, but I can live with the 95-110 I am hitting now.
