Indeed. Also, every time XDA or someone else found an exploit to root the HTC One X or One, HTC and the carriers have pushed an un-skippable OTA update to patch it. They have been relentless
about locking down the modding community from messing around with this phone.
With that market segment essentially eliminated (modders don't like phones that can't be modded) HTC has had to grapple with the likes of Samsung. Most don't like Sense and have no way of removing it when they keep OTA-ing their devices.
It also seems to me that in many of their phones, they needed to make tradeoffs to fit a design spec and ended up killing anything of use. For example:
We want to include an SD card slot, removable battery, a larger
battery, and NFC.
Normally most companies are left with picking two or three out of those features. Nope, not HTC. They see four options to improve the phone and pick 0 of them. Crying shame too because you look at their handsets and KNOW they could do so much more with them, but for some asinine reason gimp it with no expandible storage, a locked in, permanently installed tiny battery, and missing features here and there.
I'm not referencing any particular model (so please don't say "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE HTC (INSERT DEVICE HERE)??? IT HAS XYZ123!!), I'm just talking about HTC's decisions in general.
