Worth Getting the 7870 Tahiti LE Now? - Page 4

So I should definatly be looking at the 760 or the LE then. Wouldn't you say it's a decent upgrade on a budget to get the LE and sell all the games? I would like a 760 but I just don't think the money will stretch that far.

If it were only about the performance I'd say going from the 660 -> Tahiti LE wouldn't be worth it, but since you indicated your displeasure with the operating characteristics of your existing card a good case could be made for doing so.

Obviously the 760 would be better, but if you can't afford it the Tahiti LE is the next-best fallback point.

Thats why I was gonna get the 7850 from OCUK buxty, the AMD mega bundle includes 8 games which I would sell. Heck the 7850 is only £160 but you get £150 worth of games, its crazy.

But I have a feeling the 7870 is gonna produce alot more folding ppd for me, so im gonna go with the 7870 and sell the 4 games instead. Even if you only sell em for 60 quid its still a cheap gpu for 100 quid.

I would say it depends on your monitor resolution and what games your looking to play.

Check out the anandtech bench page here showing a gtx 760 vs 7870 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/857?vs=854.

Is that right showing the 760 as the more power hungry card? Thats one of the main uses i get from my rig, gaming and whatever during the day folding at night. I just thought even though the LE might not be most peoples choices this long into the ranges lifespan, the value of included games and that little performance boost over the 660 would make it worth the money.

Thats not the tahiti chip in anandtech comparison. The 7870 tahiti consumes more power and most of the tahitis overclock easily to 1200 core. At that speed its about the same as a 760, also 760 overclocks itself when temperature is below a certain point set by you i think and it can go as high as 1200mhz by itself. Thats why in benches it can reach 7950 stock levels.

here is a benchmark of 760 vs other card including 7950 when ALL the cards are overclocked. This a much more realistic scenario than most reviews on the web. None of them take ocing into account.

Is the R7870 he tested the Pitcairn or the LE version?

Ah well when i originally was looking for a card people were saying a LE 7870 would rival a 660Ti and the 760 replaces that so do you think the lower price of the LE is a fair compromise for the potential performance loss?
