I dont know what people are talking about. I actually have some Red drives and notice no lag at all. Unless these people have the drives they should do some research first. The drives average 100mbs read and write times on a single drive which is fine and the same as most 7200rpm drives

Ever tried opening a folder with 30,000+ files in it on the WD Red? The initial loading is where the lag is (and really, any HDD will have the same problem). Even then, it's just a couple of extra seconds. Didn't say anything about lag when it comes to media playback or file copies.

oh i thought you were actually exaggerating about the files ya in a full server environment with tens of thousands of files your going to have issues but like you said just about any single drive will heck even small raids would struggle with that

however for a standard home environment used as basic back up and small home server they should be more or less lag free

Ya, it would be just like 600 movies.

Well, you were asking about opening folders with 1,000+ files. At 1,000 files, that's when I start noticing a slight delay which gets worse the more files you have in a folder.

Thanks for the reply.

You're right. Probably won't have 1000 movies for a long time.
