FX-4100 Stable OC with Stock Heatsink

Thread Starter
Okay, right now I have it up from 3.6 to 4.0ghz. With the stock heatsink how much more could I push it? I will get a water cooler as soon as I have the money. I want to be able to play GW2 at solid 60 FPS. I have 8gbs Corsair Ven. 1600 and for my GPU, a EVGA GTX-660 2gb. I really want to get two 2gb 7850's and crossfire. Right now I can only get about 42fps. When I can play FC3 and Crysis maxed 60fps. Why does Guild Wars fall off? Someone said it was the processor GPU interaction. So that is why I want to know how high I can crank it up on the stock heatsink.

Well at 4.2Ghz(the stock for a 4170) you should be fine at the stock heat sink. I was able to hit a 4.5Ghz overclock with my 4170 on a stock heat sink. I will need to know what voltage you are on right now though, to be able to determine your head room. Post your idle temps and your max temps under a 20 minute Prime 95 test so I can get an idea.

I haven't any experience with GW2, but if it is like other MMO/RPG games, they are very processor dependent, which would explain why your 4100 is not cutting it.

Also post your current overclock on your GPU. Just for future reference, the more information you give in the first post about your rig, the more info we will be able to give you in return!

We dont have no idea how high u can get on stock cooling or how to get 60 fps in a game? You have to try and push it, just keep an eye on your temps! So go slowly and break her in, try raising your multiplier one step at the time and then check stabilty test, and if its ok go on. And if not try raising your vcore one step higher. And keep eyes on your temp!
