Can I have Windows 7 and 8 Both access the same hard drive for games?

I want to run three hard drives / SSDs, one with Windows 7, one with Windows 8, and the last with Steam game installations (all the large game files). Is it possible to install a Steam game on both the Windows 7 and 8 drives (with separate saves/settings in My docs or where ever the game puts them) but have the both access the main data files from the third drive, so that I do not need to have two copies of the very large Steam apps folder.

Say Windows 7 is drive 1 it has its own installation of Steam but when I install a game I select to put it on a second drive. Then I install windows 8 on a third drive and it has it's own installation of Steam but when I set the install path for a game, I make it point to the same drive 2 that the Windows 7 disc is pointing at.

Has anyone tried this? Is it possible?

...I understand that all the save games and settings would be saved on each of the drives with OSs and they would be completely separate from each other, changing one wouldn't effect the other. I just want them to point to the same Steam Apps folder.

You should be asked on which OS want to boot at the start.
Either if is Win7 or Win8 will have access to all SSD, which means you will be able to play your steam games at the 3rd SSD/HDD

Data will be saved at the 3rd, were is located steam (By default) in User Data folder and into Documents folder (for each OS) as back up.
Besides if you play at Win7 and want to keep playing at Win8 next day, "Steam Cloud System" will do the job of Sync your Data.

So yes, you can do that.

Edit: The only problem (If could be called that way) would be games with no Cloud Sync, in that case you will have to migrate manually your Data to one OS to another. (Some none-steam games)

Edit 2 lol: If not wrong Cloud Sync is limited to 3 PCs (OS in this case), so you will have just 1 extra before start discarding your configuration.

True, I completely forgot about cloud saves... although I dodn't mind having separate saves or need to copy them over manually.
