What's the Deal With USB 3 on Z87

Thread Starter
Has anyone encountered the USB 3.0 bug with their Z87 boards?
Are people waiting for the C2 release? (its supposed to fix the issue)

I'm looking at getting an ASRock Z87E-itx for my next build and I'd like to know if its worth it to wait for the fix to roll out.
Some reports are saying that this bug only happens with "cheaper USB drives" and some reports are saying its potentially a problem with all.

Also, how will we know which boards have the C1 and which will have the C2?

c2 boards are already out as well, there wont be any announcements, beucase it actually doesn't fix anything lol.

Is that because the problem is with the client USB drive itself?
I saw somewhere that the C2 chip is a fix for some manufacturer's cheap USB 3 controllers. Is that true?

Most everyone uses Intel USB 3.0 and hubs which only could help with the issue.

The issue is Intel, they said Microsoft will fix it and that C2 actually doesn't fix anything, why do you think they haven't made any announcement? However Microsoft will release hitfixes, i think there are some for windows 8 already. most info on this topic is pretty old, from before launch.

Interesting...
I did notice that most of the info out there was near/around Haswell's launch, and there's been nothing since (why I asked the question in the first place).

So if my primary OS is Ubuntu, then is it a non-issue?
Naturally I need Windows now and then, but If I'm in Linux while I'm shoveling data around then there's no USB 3 bug?

The bug was one which affect certain USb 3.0 devices from being detected after recovering from S3 sleep(actually the bug has been around for more than just haswell). GBT has said that if the manufacturer uses a hub(which almost all do) then there isn't going to be an issue as the hub will detect the USB device and the Intel USB 3.0 controller wont have too. If the device isn't detected then you can just unplug and then replug the device and it will work. But i haven't seen many people complain about the issue.

Think I'll go ahead with my mITX server build.

I think people shifting blame to Intel is weak. You can't honestly tell me every mobo manufacturer did not test the hardware as was like oh well ya know it doesn't work but we'll sell this trash to the consumer anyway. They should have thrown it back at Intel. Are many of you getting issues with when you restart you need to re-plug in your usb 2.0 devices?

How did the revision not fix this issue?

can you answer this, if not Intel, then who? Did you ever hear of the B2/B3 stepping thing with P67?
