My opinion is that you should move all the apps you work with on your SSD as well and not just use it for cache. It'll help startup up times immensely for those programs. As for how big, you'll have to figure it out yourself. I would be okay with a 90GB SSD but as others have pointed out it's easy to use a lot more.

If he goes with getting an SSD for installation of OS and a few apps such as CS6, he should go with a 128GB SSD.
