I just bought a ocz solid 3 60gb ssd. when I installed it in a laptop sata2 I was getting 120+c just sitting not doing anything.
so I looked at the fw and it was old 2.11 so I updated the fw I think 2.25 what ever the newest one was and it s temps are now much better 30c
but now sometimes when I boot the laptop it will sit there with a black screen I would have to shut it down and reboot it and then it will work.

new fw bad ? solid3 bad sf-2281? or im on a sata 2 ide?

there are no temp sensors in that SSD. That is just a mis-read smart value.

If you can use ahci.

If you have any external devices plugged into the PC then that can cause a black freeze on boot

hey sean , no its a older laptop amd x2 cpu ddr2 memory also no ahci. there is nother on the laptop that's pluged into it. its very odd it happen today, it might happen once every 5 starts. bios on the lap was up to date.

correct, no temp sensors. I think you surely must be having other hardware issues in your MB or as Sean Webster rightly indicates that any plugged in external devices would have gone bad. It definately is not encouraging to blindly target the sandforce controller without analyzing the issue in the right manner.
