G'day,

I have already posted this system before and after some help on the forum i came to a particular setup and price. However our financial situation has change and i am no longer able to spend $7500 on the system (this was going to include an awesome water cooling system).

Now i need to get it down to $5500, i have basically dropped two of the three screens and taken off the water cooling system. however it is still about $300 to much. I will eventauly be doing my water cooling system with the rig once the money becomes available, and will also be getting the full three screens as well. Some of the things which can't be touched are the, keyboard (i have been waiting for this since it was announced and the case as i have fallen in the with the 900. I am open to any other proposed changes, taking into account that i don't want to realy have to upgrade any parts for at least 2 years. One of the main things i was thinking of, before anyone gets to chopping up the build, is should i get 1x GTX Titan or 2x GTX 780's? Another thing is would getting a cheaper set of memory, E.G. Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD32GX3M4A1600C9 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3. This is doulbe the amount, however it is only 1600MHZ, it would save me $70.

Anyway here is the list.

Case: Corsair 900D $399
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme $519
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K $639
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i $145
Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M4A2400C9 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 $509
Graphics Cards: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked 3GB x2 $$1638
SSD: Corsair Force Series GS 128GB SSD $149
HDD: Western Digital WD Green 2TB WD20EZRX $95
PSU: Corsair AX1200i $379
Disk Drive: Lite-On IHAS324 24x DVDRW $25
Case Fans: Corsair Air Series AF120 Performance Edition x8 $156
Screen: BenQ XL2420T 24in $399
Keyboard: Saitek S.T.R.I.K.E 7 $389
Mouse: Saitek Cyborg R.A.T. 7 $85
Mouse Pad: Unddcided Approx $30
Cables: corsair sleeved cables $110
Shipping: $100
Total: $5766

I Hope you guys can help, BTW the site that im getting almost everything from is pccasegear.com.au as im from AU and this is one of the cheapest places to get stuff from, im trying to get everything from the one website to limit shipping costs. Thanks in advance

PSU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371043 -$269 (-$110)

HDD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007603%204027%20600003269%20600003300&IsNodeId=1&name=2TB&Order=PRICE&Pagesize=20 - $89 (-$6)

Memory- 32GB (4X8GB)? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233394- $509 ($0)

realized you are in AU(yes, helps to read full post...) so not sure if you are using US$ or not... don't know how much shipping would be, newegg is usually really good when they ship from overseas to US (don't know if it works reversed..) if you can build most of it on newegg, they should be able to give discounts. can always set up a wishlist and ask a sales rep. to give estimate on shipping.

what are you going to be using the build for? gaming specifically? video rendering/other programs? or just pick the best looking/most expensive gear to make the build look really cool?(if so please make a build log because what you got posted so far is pretty sexy:p)

if youre not going for the most expensive items there are a few ways you can cut costs on some parts you picked, then be able to afford a good 500-1k WC loop and still make the build look insanely good.

This build was going to be my firts build log on this site, now that i cant do the water cooling then i will be doing it in two parts. It is also going to be my last pc build for myself for a while, so i want to go all out. i know just about everything is overkill in this system for gaming but that is what i'm basically doing, i will be gaming on three screens eventually not sure on the res though.

Last time i checked Newegg don't ship to our amazing country. i would have to get them to ship it to a chipping company and then get them to ship it to me, i looked into it a while ago, unsure if it has changed since then.

I have heard bad things about the Antec power supplies, unsure if these are true or not as i have only ever used corsair in all of my builds, including my builds that i have done for friends and family.

Ah, well if its supposed to be an all out overkill build, i support you there
tongue.gif
because i def wanna see how it turns out!

as for the power supply, i can personally recommend the evga supernova 1000w g2. Its a great performer so far. its also almost half the price of that corsair 1200i. I havent had a corsair psu but i have read that they have lots of problems, specifically the i version of them, but again, i havent owned any personally and those could just be faulty units.

Im just trying to help you maybe cut back on the price of the hardware a bit so you can put a badass water system in this baby
biggrin.gif
it would be a shame to see a build this great go on air
frown.gif

maybe even just saving 200-300 extra off the components you have listed you can do atleast a very basic loop for now.

For water cooling u can make it into 2 parts like Get Swiftech H220 and u can add second 120 Radiator Later on easily on this same bump
biggrin.gif

For PSU My XFX 1050 Gold is the same psu am using in my Sig rig it is amazing and give u true exact 1050W also it have the good OEM parts in it , so in quality it is very good and 1050w will be enough for all what u listed with the custom water cooling if u will do later and still get 100+w extra

on the website u did link i couldnt find the XFX so try seasonic

two 780s would give you more performance over a titan, but would cost a bit more, i would take the 780s personally.

corsair dominator platinum do look really good i must admit, but their vengeance pro also looks really good and doesnt cost as much i dont think.

I think im going to have to change the keyboard as i can't bring myself to chop any of the components from the rig. What keyboard do people recomend that would save me some money? I will eventualy be getting the cyborg keyboard when i get the money, which ATM is looking like it might be about 1 year away

After looking at the Cm Storm Trigger keyboard, i have decided to go with that one. And i actually think i like the look of it better, it will suit the room ad build more. I hope this cut will please my wife or i will have to return for more cuts. And for those of you who do want it i will be making my first build log here on the site with plenty of pics.

Get the Titan and eventually when you have more funds or their price drops you can get a second and beat the 780 SLI.

Once you get the Titan bug you cannot escape....... At least I could not

I cannot wait to make it to a Quad Titan setup

How many video cards do you want?

Corsair AX1200i is a waste of money its overpriced and the Corsair Link you pay for does not work and its also overkill for anything less then 3 video cards

Hell it could power 4 video cards if it had 8x PCI-E cables

G'day,

I'm about to order my parts for the rig very soon. I have made 1 minor Change. I'm now going to be using the EVGA GTX 780 Classified GPU in SLI.
With this i will need to save some more money. I have been looking at socket 1150, the CPU is about $200 cheaper and the MOBO is about the same. What you guys recommend.

Option 1
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme with Intel Core i7 3930k

Option 2
ASUS Maximus VI Extreme with intel Core i7 4770k

If there is any other MOBO that you would recommend for socket 1150 let me know.

Hey mate,

Not sure if you are still going ahead with it or if you have already bought the stuff... but here is a couple of things i'd suggest.

1) Don't bother with SSD if you are going to install stuff you use onto HDDs... the SSD boost in performance will only help in booting the PC but when you run any programs thats not on a SSD, it gets bottlenecked anyway... unless you have the money to get a few SSDs to RAID them or can get the 1Tb SSDs... don't bother, you will only see performance for anything you installed into SSD such as windows... which doesn't really need the extra bandwidth (IMHO)

2) All mouse pads work in the same way... no point in buying a 30 bucks pad... i have a generic one and a razer vespula... and they feel the same. Only reason why i use the vespula is for the wrist rest. this will save you at least 20 bucks

3) If you want a cheap PSU that does 1200w and is still quiet... look into the OCZ ZX 1200w... i was tossing up between the corsair and the OCZ and chose OCZ because i just could not justify the cost of having "Software" controlled fans... especially when your fans will most likely drown out your PSU in terms of sound anyway

4) 900D is really good for watercooling, but if you are going air (with the exception of your CPU) get the 800D or the new 750D.

Just my 2 cents... hope it helps

Cheers

128GB is enough to put lots of softwares on it , and the reason ppl buy ssd not just to get the boost at booting up but the entire windows get snappier and copy paste etc.. open files

and if you did advice op instead of buying 4 SSD witch will cost way much more just get SSD cache going with that he will have fast 2TB , or he can just make SSD for softwares and have the 2TB for movies or storage in general I think he can fit plenty on 128gb with windows and that is what I have 120Gb kingston I have all softwares on there but movies tv shows anime everything on HD

about mouse pads they are not the same , and I say for buying mouse or mousepad or even keyboard you must try how it feels,

mouse if you feel comfy with it and like the features
keyboard if it is mechanical then you must chose the switchs you prefer
mouse pad effect the way your mouse slide not all surfaces are the same some will make it slide easier faster and make the mouse feel light some make it heavy others do harm ur finger when it get scratched on it specially with long nail so try then buy

The mousepad comment is from personally experience, perhaps you feel the difference but i don't think everyone will. Get a mouse that you find comfortable and the mousepad is the same no matter what i used. If you're talking about the friction produced by the pad then i understand what you mean, but if the mouse you buy fits your hand and your grip style, you shouldn't have any issues.

Regarding the SSD, I did not tell the OP to buy 4 SSDs, i merely said that unless you plan to put programs onto the SSDs (which a 128Gb will hold what... 3-4 games max?) you won't feel the difference... perhaps he will be using it for other purposes to which my original comment still stands, unless you can fit the programs you use often onto the SSD, it will not benefit from having an SSD as boot drive. Also, i'm not sure if this is true, correct me if i'm wrong, you don't want to fill up your SSD as it lowers the efficiency of the anti wear algorithm (again correct me if i'm wrong as i'm not sure on this).
