Please help a noob in distress...

Thread Starter
So I never overclocked in my entire life but I have done some research and seen that my AMD FX-8120 has the potential to overclock a good deal so I wanted to give it a shot like others have. I specifically bought a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for this very reason and installed it. The problem is however, that I have searched high and low all over the internet and have found nothing to really help me with overclocking my 8120 with my ASUS UEFI bios which my computer has. I see that the BIOS is recommended by the majority of people as being the place to go to overclock any CPU, but seeing as my ASUS UEFI bios is not your ordinary BIOS, I can't follow just an ordinary BIOS guide. So that is why I am coming to an overclock forum in hopes that someone could walk me through attempting to successfully overclock my CPU.

Just so you guys know, I have resorted in the meantime to using an automatic overclock feature that the ASUS UEFI bios offers... it brought my 8120 from 3.1ghz to 3.9 ghz. Although it isn't a bad jump in speed, I know I could do better if I did the overclock manually as I have seen a good amount of people reach around 4.5 ghz and beyond. I have just overclocked my EVGA GTX 660 as a matter of fact using EVGA Precision X overclocking software and that was nowhere as complicated as I have found overclocking my CPU within my UEFI bios to be...

Here are my PC specs:

Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
AMD FX-8120 17 °C
Zambezi 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (8-8-8-20)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A99X EVO (AM3r2) 34 °C
Graphics
VX2450 SERIES (1920x1080@60Hz)
2048MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (EVGA) 34 °C
Hard Drives
238GB M4-CT256 M4SSD2 SATA Disk Device (SSD)
233GB Western Digital WDC WD25 00JD-00HBB0 SATA Disk Device (SATA) 35 °C
Optical Drives
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

^ The above is my specs according to the Speccy program, temp at idle included... although I have to admit, I don't know if those temps that Speccy shows are entirely accurate. Hopefully they give a rough idea as to my idle temp however.

Anyway, so if anyone is patient and kind enough to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!http://www.overclock.net/forums/threads/edit/1407528#

Yeah, a 212 EVO. I might not have the best cpu cooling fan but I think I have a good enough fan where I can get quite a higher OC than automatic one my ASUS UEFI bios gave me. Sooo... does anyone think they may be able to assist me or am I on my own with this? wink.gif

Sorry missed cooling I have used this cooler I added a fan brackets come with it , push / pull helped good to 4.7ish . Download HW Monitor - it is great soft wear.Check ram timings make sure they are set right . Also download CPUID It wil give you accurate data on CPU/ clock settings , and RAM timings. I will follow your thread , here to help good luck oh and go slow write down settings and save in BIOS saves time:)

To start these are your tweakrs lol CPU ratio and CPU BUSS 22.5x200= 4.5 GHZ set AI to manual , Cancel OC Tuner Disable Turbo Turnoff COOL/QUIET Set up your own fan settings.Do not touch PCIE Frequency Cick DRAM Timing control (9-9-9-24) ( 10-10-10-10-26).Move CPU Ratio up slowly test with AIDA 64 soft wear ,65C UP / 24/7 is to hot.. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
