Recommended cooler for under £50 for a 3570K?

Thread Starter
I paid £5 more for the "K" variant of the 3570 so I figure I should attempt my first overclock.

At stock speeds and with the stock Intel cooler, my CPU hovers at around 50C idle, 70C after use.

I am hoping to overclock my 3570K, but as I don't know anything about overclocking, I don't know how much by.

I have an ASRock H77M motherboard.

What type of cooler should I get? My absolute top budget is £50.

I can no longer edit my post, so:

I've noticed you can get "liquid coolers" for under £50 - specifically the Antec Kühler H2O 620 for £45. It appears to review well.

For my £50 price point, is it worth getting that low-end liquid cooler or would I be better off getting a mid-to-high-end standard cooler (presumably it would be a heatsink/fan combo?).

According to this you aren't going to be able to overclock anything but your GPU. Either way, I suggest the Antec Kuhler H2O 620. You probably won't be able to overclock, but it will keep your CPU cooler at stock.

Go for an air cooler. You can find something cheaper that will have better performance/$.

There are almost too many to choose from so i'm just going to recommend the one I have.

Xigmatek Dark Knight II

The highest I got my 3570k stable was 4.8 I believe. Temps were about mid 80's during Prime95 if I recall correctly.

During normal use at 4.2, im at 25-30c average idle. 50-55c average on load during games and other cpu intensive programs. Lowest fan setting too.

edit: Never mind, I saw you have an H77. I think you need a Z77 to overclock (not entirely sure)

I can't overclock with this motherboard? Ridiculous :/ It's hardly like I bought a B77 motherboard or something frown.gif

Also, I wouldn't pay £45 for a cooler without doing some overclocking. The temperatures with the stock fan are just fine. I know overclockers consider 50C idle to be hot (and it isn't a perfect temperature, I agree) but at those temperatures, the CPU won't conk out of life before I have finished with it.

Something must be wrong, i have a new 3570k and with the stock cooler i get 35C idle and 80C load with maximum stress in prime95 and it's pretty hot in my room.

For coolers i would get a Noctua U12P SE2, Thermalright Venomous X if you can find one or Ultra 120 (True), Prolimatech Megahalems is also very good, or Thermalright HR-22 Macho (this is a big one). I also personally like Thermaltake Frio Advanced, i saw it showcased in a store, and it looks great. i think they all fit your price range more or less, maybe a couple of pounds more 1 or 2 of them.

Thermalright Venomous X, you can find it on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermalright-Heatsink-Intel-LGA1366-Venomous/dp/B0031KLJPQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373228392&sr=8-1&keywords=venomous+x

for 47 pounds, and get a 120mm fan for it. It's a great cooler, one of the best.
