power splitter cable!

Hello,
I'm currently running a crossfire setup with two 7850's, each of them needs one 6-pin power cable.
My question is, if i use a Y power cable splitter (6 pin to two-6pin's), what would be the difference from using two dedicated 6 pin cables to the Y cable?
I'm looking into this because i have a nice modding idea for that cable.

Thanks guys smile.gif)

since you are doubling the power from 75 to 150 watts it mostly depends on the PSU. is there sufficient amperage on the 12 volt rail? is the gauge of wire think enough? (20 gauge, no. 18 gauge, ok. 16 gauge is better.) are the connector(s) on the PSU cheap?

its very possible but doing so would scare alot of people . . if the PSU can handle the added load, the wires are thick enough to not get hot and melt the insulation and the same with the connectors; its doable.

thank you for your answer, so i guess ill stay off this idea, shame because i wanted to make a bridge that will hold the cable and that was easily possible with that cable, guess i'll try it with two cables instead !
thanks again,
David.

What power supply do you have? I run a y setup with no issues on my sli 570 setup. In fact the x650 psu I just put in a customers computer came with a cable that has 2 6+2 pin connectors on it. Works great.

well you also have an 8 pin (6+2)?

it would be better if you were going with this mod to use that. there is 3 yellow (12v) and 5 black (ground/earth). "share" the three power and one of the grounds the other 4 black will have two to each 6 pin. or you can buy a 8 to dual 6 adapter if you really just want to run on cable from the PSU.

but since you have the two 6 pin connections available . . . just use those.
