I could recommend that guy as well. I bought my Adaptec 29320LP-R PCI-X card from him. Didn't get the drivers from him. I think he wanted $10 for a CD. Unreasonable since you can download them for free directly of adaptecs website.

I would bet that the fact he hasn't sent a CD yet is because your card probably is proprietary. Email LSI with your cards serial # and they will tell you whether or not it is.

When I found out my card was HP proprietary, LSI refused to help me and directed me to HP, who refused to help me because their drivers are optimized to work with their "proprietary" motherboards. They had the drivers I needed to flash the HBA and windows drivers for the card, but refused to allow me to download them. I even tried to flash the card with LSI drivers, which resulted in me almost frying the card. Good thing I backed up the original bios. The LSI HBA still worked, but I couldn't go raid without the drivers.

Cross your fingers.

Yep--same story--the HBA is supposed to be 1. 10, 0, 5 but only does RAID1 or non RAID. The number is smiilar to the LSI listed one--but not quite. I will hold off judgement for the time being although I have my suspicions that I may never see the drivers...still $200 for a pair of cheetahs, cable, 2 HBAs, terminator, and adapters is not a tremendous rip off.

so why don't they make cheetah 15K rpm SATA 300 drives? would it utilize the sata 300 then? or at least get better performance. i'm sure they would make good money on it.

I am sure if they could they would...

The Raptor was developed for the Enterprise Server market--but failed to gain acceptance as SCSI still provided better throughput due to the logic and commands used in that protocol. However the Raptor did cach on in the Performance PC market...hence WD's tip of the hat to us mad modders with the Raptor X.
