Overclocking an 3930K

Hello!

I'm upgrading my PC and I'm thinking of overclocking for the first time, my CPU. What could be an stable clock for it and is my PSU enough to overclock?

My specs:
GTX 580
3930K
8GB RAM DDR3 1600Mhz
MSI Big Bang XPower II Motherboard
Corsair 750W 80+ Gold

The psu is more then plenty for overclocking. You can get most overclocks stable unless you go crazy high, but that would take liquid nitrogen. I will just take a little more cpu voltage for overclocking. There are plenty of guides here on OCN to show you how. thumb.gif

First of all Welcome to OCN.

Your PSU is more than enough for overclocking on the 3930k.

In general, your overclocking performance for the 3930k will be mostly limited by CPU voltage, assuming you have an appropriate cooling solution. You should be able to expect to have around 1.0 - 1.3ghz overclock. This equates to about 4.7-4.8ghz max for 24/7 operation, although there have been some on here who have gotten lucky and are able to run up 5ghz.

There are some great guides on here. This one might be worth a look, however there are newer ones

I own a 3930k and run it at 4.7ghz. This is with a h100i for cooling.
