Klipsch Promedia 5.1's died on me...

Thread Starter
I loved these speakers, but they served a long life. Now I need to pick up a new set of speakers. I've gotten spoiled by the dual 8" subs but I rarely ever worked them hard as I listen to louder music with my HT. I just sold an Onkyo TX-NR509 about 3 hours before they died so my original thoughts of replacing them with Polk Monitor 40's are out. I'm kind of leaning towards M-Audio AV40's and eventually pairing an 8 or 10" sub with them. This computer is used for 80% gaming though. How do the AV40's do with gaming? Any other suggestions? 5.1 is nice but not a necessity. I'd like to keep it under $150 - $200 or so.

Some great studio quality monitors (speakers) are these JBL's. You could pick up a pair under $200. The audio playback would be pretty precise.

With up to $200 and with music on the cards, a 5.1 is not only needed but is also a bad choice! Try the used market and perhaps an active Dayton sub off parts express?

The speakers will be geared towards gaming, not music. I occasionally listen to music on my PC but it's usually on my HT.

I looked at the JBL's, they look nice but appear to be around $150 each.

Dang, this buddy of mine must've gotten them used or something. Here are a list of some more monitors on amazon if you want to check them out.

I'm leaning towards this:

Dayton Audio DTA-100a Class-T Digital Amplifier 50 WPC
Micca Motion Series MB42 Bookshelf Speakers With 4-Inch Carbon Fiber Woofer and Silk Dome Tweeter

Eventually coupling it with an 8 or 10" sub.

Thoughts on this vs a Monitor set?

That wouldn't be a bad way to go. To put it simply, the only sound difference from a monitor is that they tend to be more accurate at sound reproduction.

Picked up another set of Polk Audio Monitor 30's since I'm familiar with them. I also have the Lepai TA2020 amp on it's way. Will this amp suffice for the Polks for now or should I go ahead and buy a better Class T amp?
