Ram problems

post #1 of 20
Thread Starter
I have a quick question to ask, as i'm still new to overclocking. I went in the bios and found out that the ddr configurations are all set to auto. Which meant that my ddr was running on ddr333 as default with timings 2.5-3-3-7. I used memtest till about 50% and no errors at all, after all its still default. Then i wanted to get what im suppost to get from my ram which is ddr400, so i removed it from auto and just selected ddr400. It booted up well ect. Then about 15 mins into css, it crashed. And did mem test, got me an error at 20% only. Could it be that the timimgs are too tight for ddr400? should i release them abit? The ram is value select corsair in single channel 2T. Any help much appreciated. Thanks

What model is your RAM? Go to the Corsair site and look up the timings, and input them manually.

Select a ratio of 1:1 (DDR400) and also check the voltage - put that in manually (if you can't find anything on the Corsair site try 2.6 and 2.65)

Then, run MemTest and see if it passes.

From a qick Google search, try this:

3-4-4-8 for the timings

CAS = 3
tRCD = 4
tRP = 4
tRAS = 8

There should be something such as DRAM Ratio, you want to set it to Auto, 1:1, or DDR400

Also depending on your overclock on your cpu you may not be able to run at ddr400....If you have your cpu running 250 fsb then that would make your ram run at ddr500...Try downloading this CPUZ and post a screen shot of your settings ...Open two of the cpuz and show the cpu and the memory tabs at one time

I think i saw it, it says auto, by spd, or manual ddrfrom 166 up to ddr533 or somthing. Do i have to up the voltage to get some better performance from my ram to? I tried overclocking my fsb but it always locks down from 2000mhz(stock) to 2010mhz :| Must have to do with ram to i think.

If you want to overclock your FSB, loosen the timings to the ones I stated in my last post and slow the RAM down to DDR166.

Overclock as much as you can - your RAM will not be a problem/

When you find your max overclock with your board/CPU, then up the memory to the next divider and the next one until its running as close to 200mhz as possible.

I don't believe so...could be many factors but since you are new starting maybe read this GUIDE and get a better feel for what you are trying to accomplish.
Plus if you are upping your cpu then you need to change your ht from auto to x4....
