As for the ram, are you changing it or just adding another set? If upgrading, then there's not much point in that, given that capacities are the same.

For a cooler I'd get something beefier like Noctua D14, Phanteks PH-TC14PE or even a AIO loop (Corsairs H110, Swiftech H220). First gen i7 are quite warm.

I'm adding another set. I don't if I should just go dual channel, 8GB. I've been told that their is no advantage in having triple channel over dual. And dual is cheaper. Basically I just want a platform that can take me over to the newer platforms (x99) as smoothly as possible.

I would wait for Haswell-E and X99 to upgrade your CPU/mobo/Ram.

A GTX 780 should provide a large boost to your system.

Don't bother with a CPU cooler unless your current one is stock.

EDIT: I would get a 1440P Monitor as it looks better than 1080P. You could always get a Korean One and Overclock it to a higher refresh rate.

Yes that's exactly what I'm aiming to do. I just hope that a 700 series GPU doesn't bottleneck my CPU. I'll have to OC in order for it to keep on par. I've no experience overclocking so I hope I can get it right ;P

As long as its only one 780, I think you should be fine.

Here is a i7 920 Overclocking thread
