@lesley, that nicotine thing is just plain gross. At least there weren't any roaches.
OK, behind the scenes I have still been puttering with my prehistoric system (don't tell anyone
). I bought some memory from ebay, and it wouldn't fit properly. So *then* I read the label which states SDRAM DDR 2 (and yes I read the ebay ad as SDRAM DDR 1 as we had discussed a few pages back). No surprise my PC would boot up at all.
So I replaced my old SDRAM DDR 1 and reset the BIOS. Now the PC checks all the drives but still doesn't boot even to BIOS. I tried to reinstall Windows from the CD, but the PC won't read it (even though it checks the drive on start up). My plan is to take it all apart and leave it alone for a day or so.
Hey, it works with my wife sometimes. Then I will re-seat the DRAM DDR 1 and reset the BIOS again.
I don't think I damaged the memory slots. I didn't push that hard, and it looks grossly OK to me. Any thoughts? TIA. Maybe I am as dangerous as that guy from your link.
@hat, TY. Does anyone else confuse SSD with STD.
