As per my topic, does it make a difference in cooling ? .. should i keep the GPU installed in the top (upper) slot so its away from the heat from the power supply ?

The power supply won't heat up the card. It vents it's heat outside. Generally it should be installed in the top slot. The top slot always has the optimal configuration of x16 when used on it's own.

It really depends on your case airflow.

You can also find out by yourself through test stressing the gpu under full load and looking at the temperatures.
