XFX Radeon HD 6970 dead?

Thread Starter
Hi I'm new in the forum, I have been looking since 5 hours ago for a solution to fix my XFX HD6970 or to dump it.

All began like two days ago, I was playing StarCraft2 and then the display turns blue with dark blue stripes, I search for that issue and I found that it was an effect of the overheat so I tried to cool it down with a fan and it worked fine, until yesterday, began to appear little rectangular shape colors on the screen, then the screen turns black few seconds and a message appeared in the right lower corner "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered", a few seconds later it happens again and the PC rebooted but the fans noise was like a jet (not common on my pc) and the screen stayed black, I rebooted the pc myself this time and the noise stopped but the display stays black.

I tried out an old video card and the computer starts without problem.

There aren´t signals of burned components in the video card nor burned smell

Any advice will be apreciated

Thank you

By the looks of it the PC cant communicate with the GPU, so I'd say it was dead.

Hate to break it to you but the card is dead. Only thing you can do is try and RMA it or it's time for a new GPU.

You should have a lifetime warranty on the XFX card if you're in the USA. Try to warranty it with them (though their RMA process is trash).

Thank you I found this one EVGA GeForce GTX 660 SUPERCLOCKED 2048MB GDDR5. I know it isn´t a master pice but is cheap but I'm not professional in the matter, it really worth the $100 of difference between them, or the GTX 660 is a good choice?. The problem is that I don´t have much money now so I need a cheap one and a nice one, so the GTX 660 achieve it or doen´t worth it? thanks for the advice

GTX 660 is pretty nice, but if you can find one, get a non-factory overclocked 660ti. These cards overclock very easily with no modification so there is no point to pay for it from the factory. The 660ti is better on a hardware level, so a non-overclocked 660ti can be easily overclocked to outperform a regular 660.
