How hot is too hot for my GTX 680 Lightning?

Thread Starter
I just SLi'd my system so I have two GTX680 Lightning's and I was playing Crysis 3 over the weekend (maxed out if I may add woohoo wink.gif ), the temps got up to 70 on the top card and 60 on the bottom. Is 70 a good temp or should I start looking into some new cooling.

60 is what i got on my 680 with the stock cooler but i had the fan at max, 70 is ok to me maybe a little warm (thats why i watercooled mine) and i think the max for the 680 is 80. Do you have your fans at default or did you setup a custom profile. if you didnt you can get the fans to ramp up when the cards get to that temp to help curb the heat a little more. hope this helps.

70 is when it starts throttling the boost clock. You might mess with the fan curve to keep it in the 60s to keep your core clock, and in turn performance, as high as possible.

That being said it won't damage your card so I wouldn't worry about temps at 70 being a problem other than the throttling. Max temp for the GPU is 97C.

If you enable LN2 BIOS the cards will not throttle at 70c like the reference 680s.

70c is a safe temp, although you can achieve a higher OC if you manage to keep it cooler.

tl:dr: don't worry about it
