Benefit of BlueTrack tracking technology versus standard optical technology?

Recently, Microsoft released their proprietary 'BlueTrack' mice for ultra smooth tracking over any surfaces. But my question is whether the accuracy is better than a standard optical mouse or its just for the fact it works on more surfaces.
