New to overclocking had some ?'s

I want to over clock my 965 BE and had some questions about. Here is a list of everything I have:

New cooler setup for 965 BE:
Cooler
Push Fan
TIM

Hardware Setup:
M4N98TD Evo
EVGA GTX 470 OC
Corsair 850w PSU
Phenom II 965 BE c3
G. Skill Trident 2000 2x2GB
Corsair XMS 2000 2x2GB
WD 650GB x3 Raid 5
CM Haf 932

My questions:

1. Since my ram is rated 2000 and my MB can go 2000 OC; can I just up my ram to 2000 with out buying any additional fans for the NB or Ram?

2. I've been seeing over carious forums about a 965 BE OC guide that is in detail, but have yet to find it and no one that mentions it references a link to it... Whre can I find this legendary guide?

3. I've read for higher than 3.8 OC the NB voltage and speed might need to be increased... If so, where can I find the temp threshold specifications for my board? I have the processor, but couldn't find the info on the board.

All I have for now... Thanx!

I'm curious to know how long ago you built this rig/ bought these components. also, what do you intend to use it for primarily. For overclocking, you'd be better off with 2 sticks of 4gb ram as 4 sticks can lower stability of oc. Another question is why 2000 mhz ram? Most people suggest that there is little to no difference in the performance between 1600 and 2000. Also, you don't need nearly that many watts to power that computer. I'm no expert by any means, but I'm sure a good 500-600w psu would do the trick and lower your power bill.

1. You should be fine.

2. I don't know anything about a "legendary guide". Overclocking is primarily trial and error. Here's a guide I found useful in getting my thuban up to 3.86ghz.

3. the say that between 2600 and 3000 is the sweetspot for nb overclock. this may bequire a bump in the nb-cpu voltage to stablize, but for me, i needed to bump my nb voltage up once or twice.

well the 2 vs 4 sticks of memory is true,,but that doesn't make it impossible,,,,try your multipliers at 19x,,manually set your memory to 1600, then increase the FSB slowly,,,wich will increase your memory speed at the same time

but do all that in baby steps,,try the x19 multiplier first and get it stable first before you go to the next step
you'll probably need 1.4volts + vcore to get it stable with the x19 multiplier,,,if I remember right 1.55 volts vcore is the max""safely""

Found this guide and is probably what people where talking, or at least this is a good start. All I need to know now is how far I can go with the ram and the mobo...?

Guess I'll ask else where thanx...

I'm pretty sure your mobo will be fine. as for ram, keep it clock to it's rated frequency. i never go above it, but i may downclock the dimms. i know my m4a79xtd is a sturdy beast.

sorry for the slow reply,,things get busy here sometimes,,,if its heat issues your worried about,,well stick your hand on the memory and feel how hot it is,,if its warm,,thats normal,,,,if its hot to the touch some cooling would be nessesary

I have a similar setup to yours and I remember our systems like tighter timings opposed to higher frequency, I'll also mention that I tried to get past 1600 on RAM and it wont budge really just does not like it, we don't have good memory controllers (they beefed up thuban and everything after the 965). Also you should probably OC your NB to 2600-2800 our memory controllers don't like anything past that really... We top out at 3.8Ghz 1.35-1.38V (i might have to check this later) don't try for more unless u have water cooling or a golden chip. I'd try to keep CPU temps < 60. Hope this helps, I'm not very active much on OCN (tend to forget where i post) so just pm me if you need help quicker.

I'd also like to mention for anyone else reading this that the RAM and NB thing i mentioned really only applies to earlier generation (AM3) CPUs thx and don't get confused.
