try adding this to your samba config
Code:
# Mods By Bradford1040
# disable netbios = yes
   disable spoolss = yes
   domain logons = no
   max protocol = SMB2
   socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY
   min receivefile size = 16384
   large readwrite = no
   strict locking = no
   strict sync = no
   sync always = no
   max xmit = 12288
   dead time = 15
   getwd cache = yes

also you mentioned you want to see the usage bars on other rigs not sure if you got it all set up yet but it should be no problem both my main system servers are in my computer screen in this shot as you will see. Is this what you are trying to do? Plus forgot to add both fileserver and webserver are running Ubuntu server 13.04 and formatted with ext4

Hey, thanks for the reply, I was able to get the usage bars up no problem but have run into a few more issues that is making me really loose enthusiasm for ubuntu. I like GUIs not commands, I just can't get my head around it all, I think it's amazing how people can learn it, basically like learning another language but it just confuses me! I have messed something up by following some instructions on how to auto mount my drives, I lost all but one and manages to work my way back through to undo the commands but one drive is still invisible. I think I am even more frustrated as my server is just so slow where I am used to much faster hardware.

I am thinking now about getting another drive and slowly transferring everything over to UFS and using freenas, at least I have the web based GUI to use and minimal time actually with the server OS open.

I have noticed one problem with the speed of my server but i'm unsure where the bottleneck is......

When I play HD MKV files from my film collection, they stream just fine but if I try and play my avchd files from my camcorder they are stuttery and unwatchable, whereas when the drives were in my main system, they were perfect.

Is this from my super slow cpu on my server or the limitations of wireless n?

Thanks for the help so far, it must be frustrating helping someone with zero understanding of it!

webmin is web based and I use it every day for just about everything mind you the versions are newer and this is just my notes so there is two or three ways to install it but figured i would help out
Code:
[Webmin install]
sudo bash
echo "deb http://download.webmin.com/download/repository sarge contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
echo "deb http://webmin.mirror.somersettechsolutions.co.uk/repository sarge contrib" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo wget http://www.webmin.com/jcameron-key.asc
sudo apt-key add jcameron-key.asc
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install webmin
       OR
sudo apt-get install webmin -y

wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin_1.610_all.deb or
http://sourceforge.net/projects/webadmin/files/webmin/1.610/webmin_1.610_all.deb
http://sourceforge.net/projects/webadmin/files/webmin/1.620/webmin_1.620_all.deb
sudo dpkg --instal webmin_1.610_all.deb
sudo apt-get install libnet-ssleay-perl libauthem-pam-perl libio-pty-perl apt-show-versions libapt-pkg-perl
