"Windows cannot find c:\Program"

Thread Starter
This is a very tough one and I'm unsure how to figure it out.

I would reinstall Windows 8 but I'd like to know how / why this is occuring. I'm using NOD32 and it shows no malware or viruses soooooooo it's a puzzle to me.

When I leave my PC for awhile and come back I will see a prompt asking me which app I'd like to use to open the file. But I selected no file and as far as I can tell nothing is being done.

When I clicked Wordpad I got this message:

"Windows cannot find c:\Program."

What I need is some method of figuring out what is going on while I'm away, it only occurs when I leave I don't get this happening when I'm using the PC.

Your thoughts?

Please download Process Explorer, and launch it.  It is basically a very advanced Task Manager.  Scroll horizontally and look for a column named "Command Line."  If you can't find it, right-click the column bar and click "Select columns..."  Tick "Command Line" (it's the 4th one down on the right-side in the "Process Image" tab) and click [OK].  Leave Process Explorer running when you leave your PC.  The next time the message appears, find the "crosshairs" icon (it is the last icon in Process Explorer's toolbar, right next to the binoculars/search icon).  Drag the crosshairs icon onto the offending message box and release it.  Process Explorer will highlight the process that caused the dialog to appear.  Make sure that the "Command Line" column is visible and then take a screenshot and post it here.  Perhaps someone here (maybe even me) will know what it is. thumb.gif

Since it doesn't happen when you're using the PC, it sounds to me like a scheduled task that is scheduled to run upon so many minutes of the computer's being idle.
