Question about connecting HDTV to Denon AV Receiver.

So I have a Samsung UN40F5500 and a Denon AVR-1513 receiver. My question is, how do I connect the TV to the receiver besides digital optical for surround instead of stereo? I am running my HD cable box to the receiver then to the TV so that works fine but HBO Go and my external hard drive that I play movies from are coming from the TV and not through the receiver. The TV has digital optical out and what looks like a basic head phone jack out. Am I just stuck with those in 2.1?

You should be plugging everything into the receiver, which then sends the picture to the TV, and audio to your surround.

I get that, but my TV has built in HBO Go, so I would need an audio out going from the TV back to the receiver...right? And I can't plug my USB hard drive into my receiver. Like I said, cable box and game consoles will go into receiver.

Yeah if your receiver has an optical in, plug the optical out from the TV to that, then switch to it for anything integrated into the TV.
