How to light Motherboard? - Page 2

the only noise is from the convertor, and only if you have too large a unit for the cable, by the time i had mine done and put the side panel on, you never heard it.

how loud are we talking about? i want to do an EL wire mod too but i really hate noise. i want to minimize noise. is it as loud as a pump? or quieter ?

EL wire inverter noise is roughly about the same level as a mid-range fan. Not too bad, and can easily be lost inside the case. I just don't really like EL wire as it's not very bright.

As far as the effect seen on that photo, I have a theory that it may be some camera hocus pocus like light painting. I don't see any specific illumination source that would light the entire motherboard like that. I could easily recreate that using a camera on a tripod with a remote shutter release, manual (bulb) mode in a darkened room. Open shutter, flick room lighting on for half a second. Use an LED flashlight to then "paint" in the exposure on the board itself. In this photographic method, only things that are lit and facing the camera will be exposed.

That looks pretty awesome around the CPU block

I didn't think about that. If it is that would be some crazy precise light painting to prevent any light spillage onto the CPU block and other components sitting on top of the motherboard. Would be a lot of trial and error to balance with the ambient light as well.

I usually do a couple trial shots to test how long I need to expose with room lighting if using it, and the flashlight. It's not all that hard. Using an even smaller light source like an LED keychain makes it even easier.

If you want absolutely zero light bleed off the motherboard, you could combine two exposures in Photoshop. Simply load two photos into different layers, put the layer with the lit mobo on top and crop away the rest of the layer. Plenty of ways to do it. I just don't see that photo as being possible without some sort of trickery or manipulation. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

I doubt theyd be willing to share their secret if it's not just trick photography

I have a theory, maybe it's a UV reactive coating painted on the motherboard and what looks like a UV light source on the top panel.

Hmm. I don't know how uv paint looks or works but that sounds feasable
