[Ars] White space Internet may finally spread through US - Page 4

I also would have to challenge your assertion about a lobby conspiracy in this case considering lobbying was what led to the FCC unanimously deciding to allow and formally define the use of white space in the first place.

So by your logic what you say carries no weight either......

Way to defeat yourself, it was a remarkable show of brilliance.

EDIT:

Oh, and just to further highlight the issue I am talking about, even though according to Mr. Random Internet Guy, I should be doubted....

A current Commissioner of the FCC is this gentleman....

http://www.fcc.gov/leadership/ajit-pai

Ajit Pai

Now, before becoming a Commissioner of the FCC he worked for Verizon Wireless
Quote:
Associate General Counsel at Verizon Communications Inc., where he handled competition matters, regulatory issues, and counseling of business units on broadband initiatives.

Source is the same link above.....

So what you have is a Government institution that is lead by the very people that it is supposed to govern. Or, at least lead by the former high level employees of the very companies it is supposed to govern.

Oh, but of course they will still be partial and not biased.......

EDIT 2:

Another fine choice by the FCC....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_2008_wireless_spectrum_auction

Nothing like selling what is public domain to the highest bidder! Instead of opening this up to licensed use on an availability basis, allowing anyone to use it where it is open, lets just sell the entire damn spectrum for the whole country to big business!

Why exactly is this an issue? Well, lets say I have a small community out in a super rural area that wants service. Now lets say I wanted to deploy technology that operated down at ~700Mhz, in order to get through the thick trees and around the various hills.

Now, that spectrum way out in this area is completely open, it isn't used, and it more than likely never would be. Safe to say, at least not for the next 10 years or so. In a situation where the spectrum was available for License, so long as it wasn't used in that area, I would be able to do this.

Unfortunately for that community, I can't! Why? Because Verizon, or another large corporation, owns that spectrum for the ENTIRE country. Even though I could safely operate in it, I can't, because it is "owned" by a business.

Are you seeing the issue with this yet? Are you seeing the waste in our spectrum?

So, instead, I as a Wireless ISP have to attempt to reach these people in an inferior spectrum, with inferior equipment. All because the FCC says so...

Particle, Mr. Random Internet Guy, I can do this allll night long, I have over a decade in dealing with this mess.....

oh you whiny turd ;-) we get that at the SEC and the Federal Reserve all the time. It's standard operating procedure.

Yes, I understand your fury. Industry guru's should never be the head of any regulating board. It is infuriating to see them screw over the public so that the company they used to work for can give them a nice cutback later on in life.

No, that is not what I was saying.

Don't you know, the only people on the internet and technology based forums are morons and idiots that don't have careers...... (and more--long quote)

You've made the same mistake the above poster did. I'm not saying that at all. On the Internet, unfortunately, it's common operating procedure for people to feign authority on subjects being discussed. You being the owner of a sizable company comes across as convenient, not impactful. It's not to say you aren't, just that by default I will be skeptical since we have no trust relationship already in place (ie you're someone I've never met before). To be otherwise would be foolish.

So, to address your comment of my assessment being self defeating, no, it's really not. The entire point I was making was that from my perspective our opinions carry equal weight since you haven't truly established yourself as being someone who can speak with real authority on the subject. Your only action was to declare yourself an authority and proceeded to lecture, and I do not blindly accept information on that basis. I'm still interested in what you have to say, just don't try to play that card and expect me to buy it.

To reiterate what I said in the post you've quoted, I didn't intend any malice. There is no reason to return with an insult.

Wake up.

Experience with a subject and interaction in an industry are very important factors when judging if you should accept someone else's opinion or not. I would say to pretend otherwise would be silly.

You cannot misdirect me. You said the size of a company is what gives weight to the opinion of it's representative. Now you're implying that experience in an industry is also dependent on the size of said company.

All I have to do is rephrase and broaden what I said earlier. Your viewpoint is toxic to free enterprise.

But I don't blame you. Hearing enough people say the wrong things enough times will do that to a person.

edit: And in case you've wondered, I'm defending PostalTwinkie (don't take me to mean he needs me to) because he has done exactly what you claim he hasn't:
Quote:
truly established yourself as being someone who can speak with real authority on the subject.

There aren't many who come to this site with the knowledge on the subject that he does. And the fact that you can find him advocating in any thread related to this topic is enough to tell me that he also has something driving him to change popular misconceptions such as yours.

Dismissing information based on these ridiculous credentials you have apparently become willing to accept is plainly naive.
