BTW the NIC Switch you were looking at on Newegg is a good switch I know money is always tight with everyone but just a hint for you would be to get more than 5 ports, maybe get a 8 or 12 port as you would have room for upgrades. I did the same thing only got a 5 port switch at first and then another and so on! But now I have a 24 port which I used to think for home/biz use was insane but after you get things up and going you will see that Giga net in the home is so worth it even over WiFi a/c or n! I can transfer a 1gig file in about 2 to 4 seconds from any of my PC's to another as long as they are on LAN and that is with everyone using at the same time. I am trying to put together a image snip package to show you the setup I use for File Serving! There are so many options out there it is kinda hard to choose, there are Browser based ways to access your files type demo for user and demo for password
believe it or not that are very easy to use even for the tech challenged like a wife or kids you also can use File Browsing (like mapping a network drive) also with you getting into all this it can be overwhelming so as I said I am trying to get a visual thing so you can see everything at work so to speak.
Just hard to do at the moment as I have so many things going on myself
I have been doing media serving for my family for about a year, and that is everyone no matter what state or now country they are in. They all have access to movies and songs and able to even back up there PC from anywhere and I am just starting to work on getting streaming to phones and tablets up and running (this part sounds easier than done trust me!!) But to have it in the home is easy for the most part
Sorry if I rambled on just kinda working on the same stuff and figured I would try and help for ideas and suchEdited by Bradford1040 - 7/22/13 at 9:43am
