I just bought one of those Swiftech things, and indeed it's exactly what the OP wants. If only there was some way he could go back in time and read SBL's answer more carefully.

I've got one of those Swiftech PWM hubs as well. You'll need a VGA PWM adapter to use with a graphics card similar to this

Thanks for all the explanations and linking me to all the parts. I still feel more comfortable just relaying the PWM signal from the GPU and pulling the 12v power from the PSU. I'll most likely go with the Swiftech splitter box =)
