Borderlands 2 D3D9 error help

So I have been playing Borderlands 2 on my laptop since I got it in March with zero issues. Tonight I fire up steam and get an error right after the mini Borderlands splash screen and before the game loads. It's a D3D9 failed to load.

The only thing I can think of that has changed is I updated nvidia driver. So far I have rolled back drivers to last one and to the one the machine came with. I have reinstalled all drivers three times, I have reinstalled steam, I have reinstalled Borderlands twice. I am at a loss.

System is Lenovo Y480, i5, 6gb ram, 512GB Samsung 840, Nvidia 640le.

Does your Lenovo have Nvidia Optimus technology? If so, try going to the game's main folder, and find borderlands2.exe. Right click on it and choose Run with graphics processor -> High-performance NVIDIA processor.

You may have to reinstall your Intel GPU drivers as well.

Yes it has Optimus, I will try that first thing in the morning. I did reinstall the Intel HD driver.

After testing I found I could launch it via the intel hd but not the 640le, I was trying to think of things I had done over this week. I realized it was an EVGA UV I installed at work to use a second 24in 1920x1080 monitor, its displaylink software as soon as it was uninstalled put everything back to where it was.
