CPU cooling issue (Fan speed settings on P8P67 Pro)

Hey everyone!

I recently bought 2 corsair performance 120mm fans to replace the stock fan on my Hyper 212+.
I also bought a nzxt fan controller that i have been using to cool the cpu with those 2 new fans. However after being unable to configure a decent temp/speed fan curve style cooling with the fan controller, I then purchased a nzxt 3-pin fan splitter cable to plug into the motherboards CPU_Fan plug (which temp/speed curve can be set in the bios).

My problem is...
Now when i use the CPU_fan motherboard connector i have no control over the speed like i did with the stock 212+ fan. The fans just run at 100%. It does detect the fans are going at around 2k revs in bios but there is just know control over speed anymore, even if you tell it to go slower. I do realize i have gone from a 4-pin fan to a 3-pin fan but surely an advanced motherboard could control the cpu fan (as i have it set in the bios) if my fan controller can do similar.

Anyone know what the problem is?

You've already found your problem. ASUS motherboards that use 4-pin headers will make 3-pin fans run at 100% (as far as I know) due to their use of PWM instead of Voltage.

I doubt this will work, but try looking in your mobo's manual to see if you can change the control from PWM to voltage.

You should try and buy the Corsair PWM edition fans and a PWM splitter.

Thanks for clarifying that there is PWM and voltage. Something i have heard of but havn't paid enough attention to unfortunately. I will consult my manual. Thanks for your time smile.gif
