[Forbes] Third Party Publishers Worry About Wii U Sales Figures

Andy Robertson has a good list of games coming to the Wii U that he says are reasons gamers ought to pick up Nintendo’s new consoles. While most of those games look great, they also underscore a problem: by and large, the majority of games we have to be excited about on the Wii U are first party titles.

I think Nintendo isn't going to do well this Gen, way to under powered (cpu), sort of expensive for the target sales group, they should of ditched the gameboy style controller and that would have brought the price down considerably to have a really attractive price point to sell well like the Wii.

slash price and/or actual high profile game(s) bundle - Nintendo Land (only on the Deluxe/Premium) simply not cutting it as the "Wii Sports" for the Wii U

Nintendo has been having third party support problems ever since the N64. So that isn't new.

So far in gaming history, console specs doesn't really tell us how successful a console will do. Tho I think with will be the first time where two competitors' console specs are so similar to each other. So that might affect third parties since they know if they make a game for the Xbox1, they can easily port it over to the PS4.

You do have a point about the price tho, but I think they will do a price cut soon.

Nintendo kind of has a thing for trying new control schemes just because they think it is interesting.

Even if the Wii U does flunk this generation, Nintendo can still make a decent amount from the 3DS, and they have enough in the bank to try again next time.

Well I read somewhere that they are already cutting even with current wii-u pricing and don't want to sell the system at a loss. But I agree a price cut will bring sales for the holidays, when will Nintendo learn? They did the same thing with the 3DS which didn't sell till the cut the price and sold it at a loss!

it's also difficult to develop for Wii U because it still uses the ancient PowerPC architecture with a weak sauce CPU running at ~1.24 GHz. Please, my smart phone has higher frequency.
Even though Xbox One and PlayStation 4 CPUs are nowhere near powerful, at least they got 8 cores running at 1.6 GHz and those cores are x86

All about the 1st party games. I do hope they get more 3rd party support and that more people buy the system, but I don't see that happening until more of the 1st party games get released.

Everyone said the same thing about the original wii pre-release and even today still try to argue they made a mistake with such a weak system. Look how well the sales numbers turned out in reality. All they need to do is lower the Wii-U price right before the PS4/XBONE releases and they will be fine. The hardware is almost of no consequence. Pricing is key. If they do not price very aggressively once the other 2 giants release then they may need to start worrying.

They may be in worse shape than I think, but it's Nintendo, they somehow almost always end up turning a profit and usually a big one.

I don't know about the wii's profit but last time I checked 3DS is being sold at a loss and with Wii-U's current price they are cutting even, so if the aggressively price there console (which is needed) they will be losing money on every console sold. But they need to do that to get it out there.

Sony did the same thing with the ps3 slim to get people to buy it, sold it at a loss!
