1000$ Budget. Case Modding - Advice?

Thread Starter
Greetings all,

I'd like to start modding my own case from scratch.

First of all my drawing skills are slim to none, but i'd really like to learn some sketchup program. I have tested google sketchup for a bit, but i'm not sure if it is a proper program to use for such sketches?
Is it even possible to make anything good from a 1000$ budget?

Those are the two main questions i'd like to get covered first. Now to the last questions about materials and tools.

Which tools should i invest in? such as screw drivers, etc.
For painting purposes - would i need to go to a professional for this or can i do this on my own with a proper spray can?
Once i learned using a sketchup software, where can i then find a "reference" for the the right dimensions, such as the motherboard formfactor mounting holes?

Other useful advice is welcome.. ty smile.gif

First things first, What type of materials are you planning to use? Because the tools needed differ depending on that.

And yes, for $1000 bucks you can make a one of a kind case that will serve you well for years.

So make a list of what you want the case to do.. (what size Motherboard? What kind of Cooling? ETC?)

And start from there..

i asume , the first thing you need , is the idea of a case

Once you have an idea , try to put it on a visual perspective , like a paper drawling or some fancy sketchup stuff smile.gif

after that , you can have a idea of what tools you might need and the materials you will need

about the tools , you can go the "cheap/gonna use it on rare ocations" or a "legit for other uses besides case modding" , this is up to you smile.gif

Thanks - now i just need a bunch of paper and lots of pencils :-) i already got an idea. So i think i start with drawing each side of the cage- bottom, top, front, back, left, right. And then i'll create a 3D sketch from there. I'm not sure if i want it to support extended atx or just atx.
