Upgrade from GTX 560 Superclocked to? - Page 2

I have two 560s right now and am also looking to upgrade. My current plan is to get a 770 now, then a second one down the road. I'll be getting the 4gb versions, as I'd also like to jump up to 1440p. 2gb should be plenty for 1080p.

I am really considering buying the 780. I have been reading forum after forum debating on if it is worth it to push above the 770. It seems like down the line it will be the more powerful to sli and also the better single gpu solution unless I wanted to purchase a titan(which the 780 is already a bit high to me haha). I am looking at this specific card: EVGA GeForce GTX780 SuperClocked w/EVGA ACX Cooler.

I currently game on a 60hz 1080p monitor. I am aware this is overkill for now. Remembering where I am currently, on OCN overkill is common place and perfectly acceptable. thumb.gif
I see this as a good idea if I were to upgrade to 120hz or a higher resolution then I would be set graphically. It will destroy anything at 1080p without maxing out the card constantly. It will also be nice to for once have something top of the line so it feels like a personal milestone. A nice amount of vram for sli later on. Even though it is overkill now, games will only become more and more demanding and if I remain at 1080p, the GPU will only be taxed more and just maybe the performance of the card will hold up for a longer period of time.

Does anyone have any suggestions on card choice? This sounds pretty reasonable for me and my current setup. I see no reason to upgrade my cpu anytime soon after Haswell. It does 4.5 on air already and could soon benefit from a new HSF. I see no real bottlenecks.

im going throught the same predicament right now and i bought a gigabyte 7970 windforce and when i was benchtesting and game testing vs my friends rig on his MSI 7950 twin frozer and saw that the performance was littleraly maybe 1-5% so the performance to cost was just stupid and then the GTX770 seems to perform a little better than the 7970 but just teeter toter really. And after looking and talking with the AMD guys theres no denying crossfire 7950's is the most bang for buck the performance its just so close to that of the 7970 and gtx770

This is all very true. I just feel like currently I wouldn't want to deal with a two card setup. It isn't always perfect but is most of the time. In the future having the higher end card helps squeeze out the most performance, even if the performance is almost met by cards under it. I think that is pretty much always the case with cards spanning generations. Sometimes previous gen cards with a bit of luck can reach the performance of the next. All of this knowledge doesn't make the decision making process come any easier that is for sure!

Also, with the 780 ACX cooler by EVGA, is this considered a reference pcb? I would like to know ahead of time because down the line I wouldn't mind sli'ing and watercooling these cards. Since they are overclocked based on their temperatures, I would want to get the ACX cooler as it cools better from what I have read. I am still at a bit of a loss as to which card of the set to get.

EK says that it is a reference PCB.
